Supernatural Convention in New Jersey

A few weeks ago (Sept 4-7) I was a vendor at the Supernatural Convention in Whippany New Jersey. This television show on the CW has been a favorite with my family since 2005 when it premiered on Sept 13th. My daughter, Holly and I sold my handmade pins and magnets from all Sci-Fi genre including Supernatural, Dr. Who, Firefly as well as Sherlock, steampunk, Harry Potter and (yes) My Little Ponies. It was a prosperous weekend as well as fun and entertaining. Met lots of interesting fans of the show and got to go to a few of the panels hosted by the stars of the show. We had a fabulous time the karaoke night and enjoyed the Cabaret show. It was a rewarding experience and we hope to do it again.

Getting ready for #Supernatural #NJcon!

sn_banner4

For those of you who did not see my Facebook & Twitter posts last month, I’ve signed on to be a vendor at the Supernatural Convention in Whippany, NJ this year (Sept 5-7) hosted by Creation Entertainment! I’ve been busting my butt the past few weeks making some fun Supernatural themed pins and magnets just for this event. I have also had the extremely hard task of re-watching episodes to get ideas. (I know, such a tough job!) I have about one month left to get everything finished, but am pretty much ahead of schedule. On top of those pins, I will also be bringing a selection of my other pins as seen in my ETSY SHOP. So there will be lots to choose from. I’m very excited about this event because not only am I huge fan of the show, but this will be my first really big event. If all goes well, I may have to pack my schedule next year! (Steampunk World’s Fair, here I come! LOL 😉 )

So Supernatural Fans!! What kind of Supernatural Fan-Made pins would you like to see?

Making Polymer Clay Beads by Carol Blackburn

Although I’m not into making Polymer clay beads I really like this book, Making Polymer Clay Beads by Carol Blackburn. Its a paper back instruction book of 128 pages and retails for $24.95 or $17.36 on Amazon.com.

This book is great for the Polymer Clay beginner for seasoned artist. It starts with describing the many tools you may need or want to work effectively with the clay. It has detailed pictures and instructions on ‘how-to’ make canes, from simple rolls to a beautiful kaleidoscope, that can then be layered over beads of any shape. I love this because making canes that are interesting and balanced is very hard indeed. There are many ideas and examples in easy to follow step by step instructions with illustrations.

It continues with techniques of ‘how-to’ make polymer clay look like wood, leather, coral, abalone, jade, turquoise, and onyx, just to name a few. These make wonderful beads or whatever an artist can imagine.

It then demonstrates how to assemble beads into jewelry and finishes with a gallery of fantastic completed pieces of art done by accomplished artists.

I find that this book is helpful with design ideas and I would recommend this book to any one interested in polymer clay, beading or design.

Steampunkery – The Polymer Clay and Mixed Media Craft Book

My daughter gave me this book for Christmas last year. I love the step by step instructions with pictures for polymer clay and mixed media projects. This book is fun and informative. It is made with sturdy glossy card stock paper, which is nice but makes it hard to keep the book open to the page as you’re following the directions. The pictures are colorful and detailed. There are great projects and ideas for different degrees of abilities for any crafters. The author Christi Friesen is imaginative, creative, talented and funny. There are quirky footnotes and amusing stories throughout the instructions. This book is a lot of fun.

The only problem with the book is that it is coming apart because the card stock pages are not able to bend easy at the binding. The other books by this author (This is the 8th) are made with regular gloss paper and hold together much better and also have beautiful illustrations.

But I give it 4 1/2 suns out of 5.   ☼☼☼☼1/2
