Mermaids and Angels

My sister, Cyndi, has gotten the bug, like me, of loving the art form of polymer clay. She has been making Christmas ornaments for the people she works with for the past couple of years. She doesn’t sell them, just gives them away, as Christmas gifts. (I get my ornament early, for my birthday.) With such a love for the craft you have to find ways to keep on creating without ending up with thousands of items sitting around your house. She prefers to make ornament, usually angels or mermaids, rather then jewelry like I do. I must say that she is very imaginative with her creations and she is getting more talented with each year.

So here’s a tribute to her for following in my footsteps and becoming an artist of polymer clay.

March 14th is Pi Day

For all you Math and or Science enthusiasts lets remember March 14th, Pi Day. How do you celebrate this auspicious non holiday? What’s you favorite kind of Pie? Pi is actually 3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693 … which is a “mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter”. Yeah. Well anything is a great excuse to eat more Pie.  My favorite Pie is Key Lime Pie. I’ve made some pins to commemorate the spirit of Pi.

Christmas Time!

The holiday season is filled with gift giving and craft making. This is my busiest season making clay ornaments and pins for friends and family as Christmas gifts. What better gift to give teachers, neighbors, friends and family than a handmade ornament or piece of jewelry? Here is a selection of items I’m making this holiday season:

Day of the Dead November 1-3

Day of the Dead Skull

Day of the Dead Skull

Day of the Dead, also known as All Saints’ Day, is a three-day Mexican holiday to honor and celebrate loved ones who have died. It is also celebrated in many parts of the world, which directs honor and reverence towards one’s ancestors. Day of the Dead art is symbolized with smiling skulls in kaleidoscope colors,  psychedelic decorations and detailed designs. Beautifully adorned skulls are a tradition for the festive celebration and have become well recognized around the world.

These are a few that I have designed with polymer clay.

This second one is a Steampunk Pilot profile with a Swarovski element eye, handcrafted and painted.

The third one is a art nouveau style with a kaleidoscope background and flowing hair, also handcrafted and painted with Swarovski element for her eye.

The fourth one is a pirate wench with a large brimmed hat with a feather and Swarovski elements for her eyes.
